Live at 9 & 10:30

The name El Roi comes from the Bible and means “the God who sees.” It is a reminder that no matter where we are or what we are facing, God notices us. He does not miss a moment. Whether life feels loud and joyful or quiet and hard, He sees it all.

As we step into summer here in Mount Pleasant, NC, there is often a lot going on. School schedules change. Vacations get planned. Some of us feel energized, while others feel tired and unseen. In the middle of all that, it is comforting to know we are not invisible. El Roi is present in each part of our story. Pastor Tori Newman recently shared how this name of God helps us feel safe, supported, and known.

What Does El Roi Mean?

The name El Roi comes from a story in Genesis, where a woman named Hagar has just run away from a painful situation. She is out in the desert, feeling completely alone. She is scared. She likely believes no one knows where she is or cares what happens to her next. But something amazing happens: God shows up. He does not ignore her or send her back without hope. He speaks to her gently and promises that her life still matters.

After this moment, Hagar gives God the name “El Roi,” which means “the God who sees me.” For someone who felt forgotten, those words carried a lot of weight. We are all a little like Hagar sometimes. Maybe we are doing our best and still feel left out or overlooked. Maybe we wonder if anyone would care if we just stopped showing up. But the truth is, God sees us right where we are, even when we do not think anyone notices.

God Sees Us at Our Lowest

Life gets hard. There are moments when things just do not go the way we hoped. Maybe it is worry about money, a friend who stops calling, or feeling anxious for no clear reason. In the middle of those days, it is easy to think we are facing it all by ourselves.

But God is not watching from far away, waiting for us to figure it out. He is close and kind, watching like a parent who notices when their child is lost in a crowd. He does not rush or shame. He sees and stays. And He sees with a heart full of care, never judgment.

Sometimes it is enough just to know we are seen. Like when someone stops to ask how we are really doing or when a friend shows up with no reason other than to be there. God is like that. He steps in during the mess and does not walk away.

God with Us in Every Season

Knowing God sees us is one thing, but it is even better knowing He stays. El Roi is not just watching, He is present for the long haul. As Mount Pleasant shifts into the summer months, our days start to look different. Maybe the kids are home more, or we are juggling summer camps and weekend trips. Maybe the pace picks up, or it slows down in a way that feels lonely. Whatever the case, life does not stay the same.

The good news is, neither does God. He does not clock out when school ends or back away when our routines change. He is with us in each season, even the ones that feel uncertain or in between. When we do not know what is next or feel out of rhythm, He is steady. Knowing that helps us walk into each new week not with fear, but with calm and confidence.

At Propel Church, we believe faith is lived best in authentic community. Our gatherings are designed to help individuals and families take practical steps in their relationship with Jesus, whether through weekend services, community groups, or opportunities to serve others in Mount Pleasant, NC.

You Matter Because God Sees You

One of the best parts of being seen by God is realizing that we are fully known and deeply valued. Every part of us matters, including the messy ones. We do not have to hide or pretend. There is comfort in being seen by the One who will not turn away.

That truth gives us strength. It helps us show up for work or family, even when we are tired. It gives us peace in quiet moments and hope on the hard days.

Once we recognize how God sees us, we can begin to see others more clearly too. We might take time to notice someone sitting by themselves or check in on a neighbor who seems distant. The more we live like we are seen, the better we get at helping others feel the same.

Fully Seen and Never Alone

El Roi means God sees everything about us and chooses to stay. Whether we feel forgotten, worn out, or unseen, His eyes are never off us. That kind of care offers solid hope when life fills up, especially during busy months like summer.

Propel Church is committed to meeting you wherever you are on your journey, making it easy to connect through multiple service times on Sundays, both in person and online, to fit your schedule.

As schedules start to change and energy shifts, it is good to remember that we do not have to earn God’s attention. He sees us fully and loves us still. That is something we can carry with us on the road, in the classroom, or during quiet moments at home. We are never out of sight. Never alone. Not now, not ever. That makes all the difference for us here at a Christian church in Mount Pleasant, NC.
